Tips for opening a wine bottle

Faced with a bottle of wine that suits your taste, are you already eager to try it? Open the bottle and drink now. But how to open the bottle? In fact, opening a bottle is a prudent and elegant action, and it is listed as one of the wine etiquette.

Since wine bottles often have metal or plastic covers, a handy bottle opener is essential if you want to open a bottle of wine elegantly.

Both still and sparkling wines have different methods of opening depending on the type of wine.

Steps to open a bottle of still wine:

  1. Clean the wine bottle first, then use the knife on the bottle opener to draw a circle under the leak-proof ring (the circle-shaped part protruding from the bottle mouth), cut off the bottle seal, and remember not to turn the wine bottle.

  2. Wipe the mouth of the bottle clean with a cloth or paper towel, then insert the auger tip of the corkscrew vertically into the center of the cork (if the drill is crooked, the cork will easily be pulled off), slowly rotate clockwise and drill into the cork jammed.

  3. Hold the mouth of the bottle with the bracket at one end, pull up the other end of the bottle opener, and pull out the cork steadily and gently.

  4. Stop when you feel that the cork is about to be pulled out, hold the cork with your hand, shake or turn it gently, and gently pull out the cork.

Steps to open a bottle of sparkling wine

  1. Hold the bottom of the bottle neck with the left hand, and the bottle mouth is inclined 15 degrees outward. With the right hand, take off the lead seal of the bottle mouth, and slowly twist the wire at the lock mouth of the wire mesh cover.

  2. In order to prevent the cork from bouncing out due to air pressure, press it with your hands and cover it with a napkin. Support the bottom of the bottle with your other hand and slowly turn the cork. The bottle can be held a little lower, which will be more stable.

  3. If you feel that the cork is about to be pushed to the mouth of the bottle, just push the cork head slightly to make a gap, so that the carbon dioxide in the wine bottle is released little by little to the outside of the bottle, and then quietly. Pull the cork up. Don’t make too much noise.

Of course, opening a bottle of sparkling wine, especially champagne, shaking the champagne bottle and spraying out the bubbles is a dramatic effect in the celebration banquet. Although it can add a festive atmosphere, it is inevitably wasteful and unprofessional. There is another way to open the bottle of champagne. It is said that in the Napoleonic period, when the army returned from the battlefield triumphantly, the soldiers took the champagne from the crowd who gathered to celebrate, and when they were excited, they directly took out the saber they carried and chopped the champagne. Cork, thus creating a proud tradition of opening the bottle with a saber.
