Why are sake bottles basically green, beer bottles mostly brown, and rice wine bottles basically plastic?

Have you noticed that the bottles of these three wines are different?

Sake – basically green glass bottle

Beer – mostly brown glass bottles

Rice wine – basically plastic bottle, with many colors.

The color of the glass bottle will change according to different iron content during the manufacturing process, but it is basically blue.

Sake belongs to distilled wine, and sunlight has little effect on its quality, so it is OK to use glass bottles of any color.

Before the 1990s, transparent sake bottles were always used. We can see this kind of sake bottles if we look at previous films or TV plays. However, in 1994, one of the two companies used green glass bottles for the first time because of their market share. This was a very successful marketing strategy at that time, because green symbolized “green”, “health”, “environment-friendly”, etc., and the popularity soared after the listing. Subsequently, every sake enterprise followed suit and changed the transparent wine bottle into a green wine bottle.

The selection of brown glass bottles for beer is closely related to the composition of beer. Beer belongs to fermented wine, and its main component hops will deteriorate when exposed to sunlight. Therefore, in order to prevent beer from deteriorating, brown glass bottles with strong filtering effect should be used.Since rice wine will continue to ferment after it is put into wine bottles, and carbon dioxide will be produced during fermentation, which may lead to gas explosion. If it is packed in glass bottles, it will be very dangerous in case of gas explosion, so rice wine bottles are plastic bottles.

In addition, to prevent gas explosion, plastic bottles of rice wine are different from glass bottles in design and are not completely sealed.
